"KAAT EXHIBITION" is a unique series of planning by KAAT that develops new expressions by fusing the theater space of KAAT Kanagawa Arts Theater with contemporary art. This exhibition, the eighth in the series, will feature new works created by photographer Masashi Asada together with people from Kanagawa on the theme of "Me/Our Now."
Yokohama was one of the birthplaces of photography in Japan from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji era, where photography techniques were introduced, and it was also the birthplace of "Yokohama photography," a style of colorizing black-and-white photographs. At the time, photographs were extremely valuable. With the development of technology, anyone can easily take photographs today, but Asada continues to convey the importance of putting your heart into a single photograph through his representative family photo series.
This time, Asada's new attempt will bring the expression of Yokohama photography into the present, vividly depicting the existence of photography that changes over time from the past to the present, and the "present" appearance of people living in Kanagawa Prefecture.
